Early Years Practitioners are invited to book their free place on our February 2025 full day training event being held at Alver Valley Schools.

The training is titled: Phonological Awareness – What comes before phonics? This full day training will be hosted at Alver Valley Schools. We particularly encourage Early Years practitioners working with 2-4 year olds to attend as this training is particularly aimed at how our youngest children develop phonological awareness – although, as always, everyone is welcome.

The training is being held on Friday 28th February, 9.00am – 3.00pm.

We have the brilliant Emma Spiers leading our training. Read more about Emma here.

Emma will be covering everything that needs to come before phonics and why. It’s really hands on training, in between each bit of content there are games to play so it’s instantly actionable back in our settings.

There will be an overview of the pre phonic progression and Emma will also cover:

  • Visual discrimination and visual memory
  • Auditory discrimination and auditory memory
  • Speech sounds and developing vocabulary through pre phonic provision
  • Rhythm
  • Rhyme
  • Alliteration
  • Oral blending and segmenting

This is going to be a really worthwhile training that we hope will be really helpful for settings to help us consider how we can support children to develop these essential phonological skills, that are the prerequisite skills needed to learn phonics later on when they they start school.

Places are free but limited in number. Light refreshments will be provided but delegates will need to bring their own lunch.

Book your place here.
