On Friday 18th March the Alver Valley Arts Council went on a field trip with the important task of preparing to plan our first whole school art project. We headed off in the school minibus to Lee on the Solent beach for inspiration, as the art project is a countywide project on climate change.
On arrival we walked across a cliff top filled with daffodils and crocuses heading for the beach, and after a quick stop off for ice cream we gathered in a circle on the beach to discuss the art project on location.
We discussed the impact of pollution on climate change, the beach and in the ocean, taking inspiration from a couple of great picture books which we hope will inspire our art project. The children discussed and shared thoughts and came up with some exciting creative ideas for the project.
We then did what we do in all of our great art council meetings – we stopped and made space and time to engage in some creative art. We used the skills we had practiced in our previous meeting to paint the scenery along with some beach combing. A simply fabulous planning meeting!
Watch this space for details about how you and your families can get involved in our climate change art project, including an art competition running over the Easter break for the whole school to join in! The artwork the school creates will then be shared in Southampton art gallery along with another local venue to be announced soon.
